Hi all - due to there now being some very closely related styles in the -dD- and -dDx- wings of the old main store, I've taken the decision to have a bit of a sale and finally cull nine three year old (in some cases) styles from the remnants of the older -dD- lines.


Both the old and new styles will be discounted until the 22nd - then the -dDx- lines go back to full price and the -dD- ones go.

Garden City Relief Effort

Earlier on this week, a strong earthquake hit the New Zealand town of Christchurch for the second time in six months. At the time of writing, 144 people have been confirmed dead and over 200 are still missing. One of the greatest things about Second Life is the speed the community comes together to help; and sure enough - a fundraiser for the New Zealand Red Cross has already been organised (by Shelly Toonie of Moonshine), bringing together a wide variety of highly talented designers from across the grid (oh... and Discord Designs) offering special products with 100% of all sales going directly to support the relief work in Christchurch.

Announcing the Discord Designs 4x4 event at the Discord Designs Main Store:

December 6th marks my 4th Rezday in SL... December 9th marks Alice Hoyer's 4th Rezday

Seeing as we can never agree on the music to play at a joint party, we have decided to go a little silly instore and run not one, but four separate events over the four days between the 6th and 9th (inclusive of course)... hence 4x4!


Event 1) - PRIZE DRAW TO WIN ALL -dDx- HAIRSTYLES INSTORE

Come into the store and buy any -dDx- hairstyle to stand a chance of winning the rest of the range. Every day we'll be awarding one lucky person who buys a -dDx- hairstyle the fatpacks of all our -dDx- hairstyles instore.... yes... ALL of them

We'll be collating all daily purchases and selecting the winner randomly (using a random number generator); so the more you spend, the greater chance you have of winning!

...before midnight SLT on the 18th of December. We'll then go through all the entries, and pick the one we like the most, who will then get a hairstyle, beard or mustache named after them instore (or named after a friend, if preferred), have a hand in the design specification of it. They will also receive the fatpack of the completed style as it goes live. We'll also award three runner up prizes: a fatpack of their choice.


Event 4) - LIMITED EDITIION COLOR PACKS in MOBVENDS


Four mobvends, containing fourpacks of limited edition colors of four recent releases have been sequestered in the main store. Usually 180L each (aside from the beards which would otherwise be 90L) they have been set to drop in price to as low as 4L apiece. After the 9th, these colorways will no longer be available, so make sure you grab them while you still can.

In the not too distant future...

Hi all... plenty going down over the next few days... and speaking of going down - so will my access to SL for the next month. Why? NaNoWriMo... It's become something of an institution for me, and I've got a novel to write as I've started dishing them out at Christmas to family and friends and last year's finished on something of a cliffhanger.

But anyway - News:

31st of October sees a one day sale at Second Style Island. I'll be taking part - naturally - with 33% off all styles there, and an exclusive - Esther.


not only will Esther be going live in time for the sale, it'll also be discounted by 66% - that['s a standard hair pack of four colors for just 60L for the duration of the sale. Ester will also be exclusive to Second Style Island until well into November.

Today I shall wear purple...

Recently the media has been full of stories of young LGBT people committing suicide as the result of relentless bullying in high schools across the USA. To highlight the problem, to campaign both for the cessation of this hateful bullying, and to empower those going through it with the message that "it gets better", October the 20th has been designated "Wear Purple Day".

I will admit to feeling close to the issue on this one... back in the nineties I went through years of bullying at school, but eventually got through the other side, embraced who I was and discovered that yes - it did indeed get better.

I want to spread the word about this campaign, so I'm making an offer to you all... Join me.

For the next 24 hours, all -dDx- hair, dreads and braids - even the Nethead cables in purple have been discounted to 1L a pack in our primary satellite locations - so you too can wear purple and spread the word.

Decimation!

Hi all... it's a lot later than I intended to be up today, but I had to say something. We've remodelled the store... and in the course of doing so, we noticed that a lot of the older styles are showing their age compared to latest trends in SL hair... so we're deleting them... but not without giving you the chance to get your hands on them first.


So there you have it... the first -dD- sale since our first birthday... which coincidentally was the last time we remodelled... go figure.

OK.. it's late... this reads badly, but I really, REALLY have to get some shut-eye ;)

Ruin live... and a word on cheap stuff...

Just as a heads up, Ruin is now live, and has been for a week, in fact, in solid colors in the main store.


Just as a note, I've retexured the style a little since the pic was taken, and the overall effect is a little smoother.. so if you haven't done so already, it's worth checking out.

Get Carter...

A new release for you again... Carter is a punky, floppy mohican that is, as you can probably guess... braided.


A nice one for the guys here; and for a limited time available at the Boingo / Elixir Oktoberfest on Fantasy Land 3 (search for boingo and you can't go wrong) as an exclusive double pack - the standard mohican and an undercut full head version.


Fatpacks only of the special though... 200L apiece for 12 colors or 500L the lot; as I have serious prim constraints to work to.

Closing down sale...

Ok... just to confirm, I'm NOT leaving SL... but I am streamlining a little bit. What with taking on the Hairspray site and the Admicile location, my costs have gone up by close to 20,000L a month, so I'm having to make a few cutbacks. which basically means ditching the locations that are currently running at a loss...

Well, location.

It pains me to say it, but the Suburbs Mall store has been, for want of a better word, unviable since I moved in. Not a single week has gone past where it's made a profit; and in fact it's often 10 days between demo sales there. So basically I'm opting to cut my losses and leave, despite the fact it's owned by some dear friends.

Josey... Sid... I'm sorry.

So basically I've got 24 hours left on my contract... so until it expires at 1pm SLT tomorrow, everything instore is 83% off...

The last week has seen me away, then ill in rapid succession... but either way... back and working again... primarily on the Hair Fair materials, which i'm doing in part in partnership with the lovely Josey Trautman of Freelife Magazine (see the blog roll) who is also the proud owner of a business that makes sculpted hats... and rather nice ones they are too. I would print the name, but I wish to keep the blog PG as far as I can... ;)

Either way... in addition to the cornrow to treebraid style I mentioned a little while ago, I'm putting together a complete cornrow cover - yes... it's practically all sculptie and HUGELY server taxing, but what the hell? You only live once and all that. Pic:



Don't be fooled, the hair in the back is NOT my creation but part of the skin I'm wearing, thanks be to the artistry of Namssor Daquerre over at Second Skin Labs. While the skins are superb, and the details are truly inspired... all I'm gonna say is that you get what you pay for... this one was 3700L; but I love it. So that's OK... and I'll keep justifying it to myself until I'm blue in the face. The braids sit on top... and it's goning to be close to 200 prims... so something of a server killer. I'm reserving judgement on whether I launch thins at Hair Fair or save it for something else. either way...

On a second note, I've decided that I'm short Men's hairdos again... so I intend to launch another, named "Anthony" and rather similar, but muchly improved on the original Spike in the next few days. I'm around 3/4s of the way through the build... and it won't be long now, I swear.

Photos to follow as and when I've got enough of a head made to snap a good photo of.

And one final note... the sale as I mentioned, set to finish on the 4th has been extended until the 11th, due to me not actually being around to dismantle the sales items... So you still have time to take advantage of the 83% discounts on selected colors instore.

OK, it's official...

I suck royally... How could I avoid saying...

1) Tomcat now live - 60L a set... and +copy + mod -trans..

2) Slight matter of a massive sale instore right now, running until the 4th of July... Selected colors in all hair and beard styles reduced to just 20L... some even less...

3) The shop has been live for a year now... wow... how did that happen?

4) Dizzy, the soulpatch is just waiting on my getting a male model up and running for the vendor photos. The rest is actually DONE... and it's going to be a Linden.

5) First stages of a new style I'll be lauching at Hair Fair 2008 in August... tentatively named Jordan, but we'll see what I call it. Shot of the prototype...

Two weeks in...

So the vendors have now been live in one form or another for 2 weeks... and things are slowly ticking over... Business is not booming, but that can be, in part, put down to heavy competition, limited range of products, low advertising budget and the stuff I'm selling, or trying to, being things I put together while learning... so it's not as good as most of the other, established hair sellers...

But sales have been pretty reassuring on a couple of days... primarily Ryoko, which has blasted all others out the water, accounting for 47% of all turnover from hair sales on its own in the last fortnight... not bad for a product launched just 7 days ago... Next highest individual seller was Criss, accounting for 18%...

Two styles have only sold in demo, which is a little sad... but such is the way of things... which puts them first in line to be pulled once I hit 18 styles... I'll keep the crates available, and drop the price dramatically... see if that makes a difference...

All a learning experience... but I'll keep on going!

on a new products front, I'm halfway through tinting the remaining Ponies, and Samurai is set to load up... so with any luck, that may be done this evening... but what with the scheduled downtime, it might not make it today... Alos finished the mods on Heidi and am set to script clone and tint it... New photo coming shortly once I've got it set in its launch colors...

A brief hiatus...

Last couple of days have been a little on the quiet side on the hair front, due to an RL emergency... but that's all more or less in hand now, and I should get back to tinting and cloning soon... and it's going to be the ponies...

Just throwing up an announcement to say that I've been in the hair bizz officially for 2 weeks now... and initial sales figures are particularly interesting (if you're me)

As you may have noticed, the styles are pretty ecclectic to date... no difinitive theme or direction; as I really didn't know what would be popular... the answer can be summed up in one word... RYOKO.

May have to steer the collection that way, but we'll see! ;)
